InEDIC - Transfer of Knowledge in the Field of Ecodesign, contract number CZ-04/B/F/PP-168002-ECODESIGN(http://www.inedic.net/)

FULL TITLE: Innovation and Ecodesign in the Ceramic Industry

ABSTRACT: InEDIC - Innovation and Ecodesign in the Ceramic Industry is a project funded by the EU Lifelong Learning Program, Leonardo da Vinci Sub-program, coordinated by LNEG/UPCS (National Laboratory of Energy and Geology, Sustainable Production-Consumption Unit) from Portugal. The project period is 1 October 2009 – 30 November 2011. It is a “Transfer of Innovation”: it builds upon another Leonardo da Vinci project (Transfer of Knowledge in the Field of Ecodesign, contract number CZ-04/B/F/PP-168002-ECODESIGN). The project’s primary goal is the development of ecodesign training materials and tools to the ceramic industry in order to provide designers, training and education organizations and businesses with the skills for the systematic integration of environmental considerations in the development of their products.

The InEDIC consortium involves an international partnership from Portugal, Spain and Greece, adding up to 18 partners with proven expertise in the area of ecodesign and in the ceramic industry. The partnership includes research centers, training institutions, associations and companies.

The materials have been tested in a business environment through pilot training and demo projects, and include the InEDIC Ecodesign Manual, Support Material for Trainers, Databases of Materials and Technologies and case studies. All these resources are available on line in partners’ languages plus English.

The project’s specific objectives were:

  • To promote the adoption of ecodesign strategies and practices in the ceramic industry by carrying out demonstration projects in   European companies and through training of the designers, interns and other relevant professionals.
  • To contribute to the competitiveness of the European ceramic sector, creating more value for companies in the context of the challenges of sustainable development and globalization.
  • To boost the development of innovative and more eco-efficient ceramic products, that can be inspiring examples of good practices to other companies and sectors.
  • To develop training materials for vocational training and universitary education on eco-design applied to ceramics, in order to supply designers and other relevant professional skills directly applicable to their business reality;
  • To promote the integration of the developed InEDIC materials in the curricula of academic and vocational training institutions, ensuring a high multiplication effect.
  • To contribute to the competence of the human resources of the sector and to increase employability.
  • To contribute to education in sustainable development in Europe, namely in the framework of the Decade of Education for Sustainable Development, UNESCO.
